Geboren am 21.10.57 in Los Angeles. Steve Lukather hatte bereits mit Schlagzeug und Keyboards angefangen, als sein Vater ihm im Alter von sieben Jahren eine Gitarre schenkte. In der High School lernte er die Brüder Porcaro kennen, die etwas älter als er waren. Jeff Porcaro wurde in dieser Zeit bereits eine Art Mentor für Steve. 1976 gründete er mit David Paich, Jeff und Michael Porcaro, David Hungate und Bobby Kimball die Band Toto. In den späten siebzigern und frühen achtzigern wurde er zu einem der gefragtesten Studiogitarristen und spielte für viele bekannte Musiker. 1977 veröffentlichte Toto das erste Album mit Hold the Line, I'll supply the love und Georgy Porgy. 1982 erschien das Album TotoIV und wurde mit Platin belohnt. Ein Jahr später erhielt Lukather einen Grammy für den besten rhythm&blues-Song "Turn your love around", den er zusammen mit Jay Graydon und Bill Champlin geschrieben hatte. Nachdem er 1989 mit Jeff Beck, Simon Phillips und Carlos Santana in Japan getourt hatte, brachte er sein erstes Solo-Album "Lukather" heraus. Im selben Jahr veröffentlichte er das erste Album mit seinem Projekt "Los Lobotomys", das er mit einigen der bekanntesten Westcoast-Musikern einspielte, darunter David Garfield, Jeff Porcaro, Vince Colaiuta, und Will Lee. Seitdem folgten mehrere Toto-Alben, sowie eigene Projekte.
